Local Labor Unions Unite To Show Support Of 2007 United Way Campaign
Rochester, NY – To continue the momentum of the newly launched 2007 United Way Campaign, brothers and sisters from more than 20 local labor unions gathered this morning for a special breakfast at the Labor’s Local 435. This morning’s event served as a way for organized labor to officially kick-off their fundraising efforts.
“Members of local labor unions have consistently supported United Way for more than 85 years now,” said Rosemarie McKinney, Director of AFL-CIO Community Services at United Way of Greater Rochester. “Their dedication and commitment to this community is critical to making Greater Rochester a better place—not just for those who live here, but for those who work here too.”
One of the speakers during this morning’s program was Rod Jones, President of the Community Place of Greater Rochester. The Community Place has three United Way funded programs, two of which help children in our community find success in school, and the third is a senior companion program.
United Way funds programs that fall within three primary donor interest areas: Student Readiness & Success, Strengthening People & Families, and Supporting People in Crisis.
In 2006, our community raised $34.5 million through United Way—more than the United Ways in Buffalo, Albany, and Syracuse did, combined.
